RPG of the Week – Brindlewood Bay

Brindlewood Bay is a roleplaying system which really balances two themes that conflict on the surface – cozy mysteries and horror. To create something new and different that’s awesome to play.

Playing as old ladies, in a small coastal Massachusetts community you are a part of the Murder Mavens book club. While they have their hobbies, a family that moved out ages and plenty of time on their hands that they spend unofficially solving murders in their local community.

The mavens investigate their town where murder is common, and everyone basically has a reason to kill even over low stakes. Utilising the PBTA system, there is a lot of scope for the crime and murder to change as they investigate. Players interact with the NPCs and the world around them with the GM helping to tell the story.

Unfortunately for the mavens, dark horrors begin to influence their lives. A sinister conspiracy is at work here and they call on otherworldly forces to control the town. Which can be anything from folk horror creatures like ghosts, fairies and ancient gods to incomprehensible cosmic horrors. Like Nyarlathotep or the King in Yellow that humans were never meant to know.

It’s lots of fun to play and definitely something to check out if you enjoy dark themes!
