Who is this guy and how does he relate to the mythos? Clark Ashton Smith is a prolific author who worked closely with HP Lovecraft. Not only did he build on the mythos with a body of work in horror which we know an enjoy in the Cthulhu community – he took weird stories in really creative and also terrifying directions. Outside that, he created a series of horror sci-fi tales which are inspiring authors even now!
During his writing career from the late 1920s and 1930s he created entities from eldritch gods like Tsathoggua to various alien creatures through his sci-fi, horror and fantasy stories. Through these creations he explored how people interact with the other and losing things that they can’t put a finger on.
One way you can get into his fiction is to find books which focus on The Collected Fantasies. With a nice collection of various themes tackled in the book from the familiar to the unknowable, it’ll really get you to think outside the box. Both in terms of the mythos and how the strange the universe really is.
