The Mayhemic Missile Method: Controlled Chaos.

Increasingly rare and hard to find, The Mayhemic Missile Method is a game resource for Lamentations of the Flame Princess that is sure to delight evil GMs, the chaos merchants at their table, and to upset everyone else.

Lovers of the many DnD varieties (including OSR), are all familiar with the good ol’ magic missile spell. Players get to customise it in the sense that can describe the spell effects however they like, but the effects are always the same: it can’t miss and does relatively low damage. Predictable and trustworthy.

But what if the magic missile were a bit more….random? Well, it might look a bit like the ludicrous stuff in this book. The 6x6x6 isn’t just on the cover to shock your grandma (well, maybe a bit), it’s a method for determining random effects for the magic missile spell. Surprise!

This slim volume, clocking in at 62 pages, gives rules for tinkering with the magic missile spell, as well as a 216-item (6x6x6) table for determining the effects of the spell once cast. That’s it. And it’s glorious.

Cloth bound in a fetching royal purple, with gold leaf, a stitched binding, nice thick paper, and superb illustrations, this book is an object of desire (for nerds like me, anyway). The writing is crisp and clear, and each spell effect has a suitably preposterous and pompous name that would be fun to read out at the table. The effects themselves are varied, frequently gruesome, and range from annoying (large teeth and stinky breath) to dragon-slayingly deadly (getting sucked into a black hole).

Magic in Lamentations of the Flame Princess is dangerous enough, but it just got more dangerouser. Enjoy.
