Book Review: Mansions of Madness

Short scenarios packed full of content are a keeper’s delight. Especially when it’s a whole collection of deadly and sharp scenarios, that will not only scare you but also take you to horrible places you have never been before.

Mansions of Madness (Vol 1), set during the 1920s is a collection of short scenarios for experienced keepers. The five scenarios in this tome of terrors are sure to leave an impression on your players and vary in terms of content. They can also generally can be set anywhere in the world with some adjustment. Providing flexibility for keepers in setting up one-shots or even to fill in some space during a campaign.

What I like most about this is the scope it provides to present unique and terrifying situations to players. Such as presenting a neighbour who is doing something strange in his backyard. Mister Corbitt will do nicely. Or perhaps your players are interested in time travel or anything beyond our normal senses. Then something like The Code could be a perfect thrill ride that gets more chaotic as things escalate.

Not only are the scenarios fresh in my mind but the production values in this book are excellence. Each scenario contains detailed full colour handouts that captures the player’s imagination. And brings the period of the 1920s alive for players and keepers alike.

Now why does that house seem so weird… is there someone staring at me? I’m sure nothing will go wrong here…
