About

About counter/field

Counter/Field is an ongoing poetry project concerned with place, observation, memory, and the kinds of pressure that gather quietly in ordinary scenes.
It began as a field with two axes — an early framework that has shifted over time, though the interplay of light and dark within the same space still underpins much of the writing.

Some pieces stand alone, while others form part of recurring themes or arcs.
The river poems are one such theme; the system pieces form a smaller arc; other sequences appear, return, or break apart as the project develops.
The site is designed to be read non-linearly. The Navigation page offers a broader overview of the terrain, and the Project Overview page goes into greater depth. The Updates page features weekly reflections.

About the author

Counter/Field is written by Stef, a poet and writer based in Australia.

My work explores structure, tone, and the quiet shifts in perception that shape a moment. I’m interested in recurrence, the pressures carried by place, and the way meaning gathers around ordinary details.

The work moves between observation and fiction. Some pieces lean toward one or the other; most sit somewhere between.
They form part of an ongoing practice centred on attention, modulation, and the gradual build of a larger field. Some work develops into arcs or sequences; some remains as fragments that shape the tone of what surrounds them.

The field is open. Welcome.
